I recommend reading this, if you're at least 14. It's breathtaking. The story is incredibly believable, which is starting to become uncommon in YA, and hauntingly accurate. It has some elements and themes that are definitely not appropriate for kids. The reactions of Clay and the others who have heard the tapes make sense, and are not overly dramatic. 13 Reasons Why, by Jay Asher, is one of the most original books I have ever read (and I've read a lot of books).
Jay Asher does a great job adding twists and turns into the story, and connecting dots in ways you wouldn't have thought possible. There's really nothing wrong with this book, except for the fact that it is a definite tear-jerker. It starts off with the main character, Clay, getting a set of cassettes with the voice of the dead girl, Hannah Baker, recorded on them. Also, I still can't believe how well thought out and intricate the plot is. -EB Throughout the novel, Hannah explains why she committed suicide, and Clay barely follows along as he learns how he, and others, affected her decision.
He also does a great job in the portrayal of Hannah, showing her sorrow and desperation only through monologue.
I bought this as a gift for my thirteen year old step-daughter who loved it.
he just didnt say what she wanted to hear and it was kind of not enough for me to see killing yourself over. i thought (spoiler alert.). in the beginning when the book kind of alluded to the english teacher as being involved that he maybe either sexually abused her or tried to or something. I read this book in one day because it was a page turner. This was a great book though and i will probably read it again someday. it was over too soon and i wanted more explanation i guess. it's hard for me to find really really good books and this was definitely one of them, but i just wouldve liked a little more in the ending. i also thought that maybe Hannah could've had a little bit of better reasons for killing herself.
I have been able to pass this book onto several friends to read and my mom is even reading this book now. I seriously cried while reading the majority of this book but it is such a great story don't let that distract you. A-Maze-Ing. This is an amazing book but very emotional. I could deeply relate to this book through my experiences as well as those experiences of friends and family.
Did I ever make some kind of impact on him. Probably not the best book in the world but not bad. why he did it. In high school my senior year, a classmate committed suicide and he sent out letters in a manner similar to how she did.
This book held my interest enough that I read it in one night. I guess it just makes you think about how you never know what a person could be going through and how we brush it off like its nothing but another grumpy person. how did the people who got the letters effect him. She shares stories with the main character that are so real and in some cases were real for me.
Throughout the whole book I couldn't help but wonder what they said. I would recommend this for sure. I would definately read it again once I get the time. I could see Lifetime turning it into a movie.
